Immunisations
We offer all immunisations
in the surgery. Baby immunisations are usually given in the Wednesday
afternoon baby clinic. Other immunisations can be given by appointment
with a nurse.
Foreign Travel
Immunisations and travel advice are available from
our practice nurses. Try to allow eight weeks for a full course
of immunisations.
Nurses Clinics
The nurses run clinics for any patient with continuing
conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,
diabetes, hypertension and sexual health. They can provide smoking
cessation and lifestyle advice.
Health Checks
These are available by appointment with the practice nurses.
Blood Pressure Checks
We now have the facility of blood pressure machines that means
you do not need to make appointments with doctors and nurses
unless asked to do so. Just come along, use the machine and take
the print-out to reception. We will then be able to update your
record and assist you further if necessary.

Physiotherapist
We now have a physiotherapy service within the
surgery. When you have been referred for physiotherapy there will
be an opportunity to be seen here at Abbey Surgery.
Minor Surgery
We perform minor surgery, please discuss this with
your doctor.
Teaching
We are a teaching practice. Each year trained doctors
join the practice and work with us for up to a year. Medical
students and nurses undergoing specialist training also regularly
visit the practice. We welcome the new ideas and enthusiasm they
all bring and hope that this educational role of the practice
causes you no inconvenience. You will be informed if your doctor
is teaching but if you wish to be seen alone please tell the receptionist
or your doctor.
As part of our teaching we occasionally video consultations. You
will be given advance warning of such plans and an opportunity
to have the camera switched off.
Repeat Prescriptions
Patients on long term treatment may order
a new prescription without seeing their doctor each time. On occasions
your doctor may wish to review your medications, if when a review
takes place and a change might be necessary your doctor will contact
you or ask you to make an appointment.
If you need a repeat prescription please complete the online
form on this website or email us at abbey.surgery@nhs.net. Otherwise
you can fax us on 01822 618771 or call us on 01822 612247 and press
2 between 8.30 am and 6.30 pm.
Please allow 48 working hours before collection. Please note our
telephone line is very busy in the morning.
Dispensing
We are able to dispense medication to those patients
who live more than one mile outside of Tavistock from our dispensary.
Results
If you need to ring regarding the result of a test, such
as a blood test, please call after 2.00 pm.

These patchwork quilts, made
by patients and friends of Abbey Surgery, hang on the walls
of the waiting room. They represent the colours of the four
seasons. |
